Dan Lee Mayes, 65, a lifetime resident of the Oktaha Community, Passed Away Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021. He was born September 24, 1955 in Muskogee, Ok. He attended Oktaha School and graduated in 1973. He then went to work at Muskogee Appliance and trained to be an appliance technician. He worked with his sister Linda, his brother-in-law George Miller, Jerry Sewell, James Yandell and his lifelong friend Kenneth Miller. He was a very good technician and learned quickly. He attended various Appliance Companies for different trainings. Some were GE, Hotpoint, RCA, Maytag and Frigidaire. He became a master technician and could do just about anything.
Dan was the son of Thomas Lee and Ivan Bell Harvel Mayes. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings; Vernon Lee, Joy Lee, Ernest Williams, Wanda Louise, Thomas Lee Jr., Lester Ray, Jack and AJ Mayes. He is survived by his Brother Mack and wife Linda Hollis Mayes, his sister Linda Mayes Miller and husband George, many nieces and nephews, Wanda’s children; Robert, David, Eva, Carolyn and Sherry Fields. Thomas Lee Jr and wife Barbara and Son, Matthew Lee Mayes. Margie Cloud Mayes, wife of Lester Ray. AJ’s Children; James Ashley and Jamie Morene Mayes Boxberger. Mack’s children Donna and Jeff. Linda’s children; Mark Edwards and Michella Miller Peters, Vernon’s children Joyce Holmes and Judy Bonds and many many more.
He loved his family and the kids and did his best to spoil them. He liked to fish, play games and was a terrific domino and checker player. Family was everything to Dan. He loved and was loved for his kindness, his caring, his humor and always trying to help someone. He will leave a void that cannot be filled.
Visitation will be Thursday, 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Lescher Millsap Funeral Home 2801 Chandler Rd in Muskogee, Ok.
Pallbearers will be Mack Mayes, George Miller, Aaron Miller, Mark Miller, Kenneth Miller and Shane Boxberger.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00am April 9, 2021 at South Bethel Cemetery, Braggs, Ok.
