Tamara Jane Thorp Hines, 62, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 27, 2021, at her Tulsa residence. Tamara was born in Oklahoma City on October 25, 1958, to Doyle & Lillian Thorp. Tammy had one brother, Lonnie Thorp, a sister Patricia Hook, husband Gene, and sister Donna Taylor-Duhon. Tammy was the family's baby; she grew up with her "precious," as she referred to them, nieces and nephews. She loved her family so much, and family gatherings will not be the same.
Tammy was a 1976 graduate of Capitol Hill High School in OKC. Upon graduating, she married and had children, then returned to complete her college degree. She was a graduate of Oklahoma State University Class of 2012 and received her Bachelor of Science degree. Majoring in Political Science and minor in Emergency Management. Tammy achieved her Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) in 2013 and her Certification in Medical Coding in 2017. Through the years, Tamara has managed many offices, created businesses, worked through all the occupations to land her dream job, a Veterans Health Medical Support Assistant for the Department of Veteran Affairs. Here she loved her work family and all the day-to-day operations challenges. There was nothing she wouldn't do to make sure the Veterans she loved were taken care of, and she even sat with them at the Muskogee VA Hospital most weekends. Her children loved to hear how she cared and loved with grace the proud men and women who have served our country.
Tamara is survived by her three children, a son-in-law and daughter-in-law, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandbaby. Daughter Kara Mitchell (Karaleighta or Sissy) of Muskogee, OK and husband Lance Mitchell (Lancey Poo), son Conrad Hines (Bubba) of Lindsay, OK and wife Elissa Hines(Lissa), and daughter Chelsey Hines (her Pea Pod) of Tulsa, OK. Grandkids Calen & Ethan Mitchell, Bailey Motter, Elaina, Sophia, Louisa & Jimmy Hines, and great grandbaby Keyleigh Rose Mitchell. If it was a family event, Tamara went all out! Her daughter recalls recently finding lists of the engagements and each box check marked off on the to-do list, including food, games, snacks, drinks, gifts, decorations, who will be there, and so on. The family loved seeing how much compassion and love she put into the events, and they hope dearly to keep the traditions alive and at her expectation level. As her grands would refer to her, Mammy was someone they knew would call everyone on the phone list to get someone to answer in the family, and they still laugh about this memory. She always loved to help clean up after any event, and she would help with anything any of the children or grands needed; she sat by their sides during procedures, helped mend them to health, was dependable and gracious with her time spent with them, and always wanted to be a part of it all. Tamara was a Momma Bear through and through.
In 2021 Tamara got engaged to Gregg Heller of Tulsa, OK. He remembers so many wonderful trips through the past year, including Las Vegas, Colorado, and to the lake with their friends. He loved and cherished the days he had with her, and it just wasn't long enough. She was his best friend and had their future already planned for extraordinary times. Her smile lit up the room, and she will be missed.
Tammy was a believer of our Christ Jesus and now in heaven with her loved ones who have preceded her, Doyle & Lillian Thorp, Lonnie Thorp, Donna Taylor-Duhon. She is without pain and has complete healing and understanding. We are thankful for her teachings in life about our almighty God and will continue her work on earth.
Tamara's service will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at Lescher Millsap Funeral Home in Muskogee, OK, at 11:00 am. Lunch will be provided after for the family and friends to visit and share in all the beautiful memories they have of Aunt Tammy, Mom, Mammy, and friend at Grandview Baptist Church 3608 S.
