Twyla was born in Wagoner. Her family moved to Muskogee, and she graduated from Central High School in 1953. She married Robert “Bob” Wright on May 1, 1974. They celebrated 35 years of marriage before his passing in 2009. She worked as a grocery cashier at Milgrim’s. In 1975, she became a full-time homemaker and took great pride in caring for her family’s needs. She was the mother who always had a car filled with kids: taking them to lunch, shopping in Tulsa, or skating every Friday and Saturday night. She was the wife who helped skin the deer and had dinner waiting on the table. She was the granny who looked forward to having the grandkids spend the night so she could spoil them with a special treat from Walmart or a movie from Blockbuster. Holidays were her favorite times of the year. They were the times when the family would gather around the table, and she could spend time with everyone together. These things weren’t a part of a job, they were her greatest joy.
She was the kindest soul you would ever want to meet. To look in her face was to see her sweet spirit radiating from within. Twyla was a strong woman of God and had great faith in His love, forgiveness, and promise of eternity to those who call on Jesus. She enjoyed going to church and meeting with her widow’s group for lunches. Her favorite guilty pleasure was watching The Oklahoma City Thunder dominate on the court. She never missed a game and loved talking to her friends on the phone about every one of them. She looked forward to normalcy after Covid, but she received Streets of Gold instead. She most definitely got the better deal. She will leave a Mom- and Granny-shaped hole in the hearts of her family, but there is peace in knowing we will be with her again.
Twyla was preceded in death by her parents, Hazie and Emma Lee Rowe; husband, Bob Wright; son, Jerry “J.D.” Blair; siblings, Alene Tucker, Alley Rowe, Red Rowe, and Wanda Pigg. She is survived by her son, Vic Blair, and wife Thyra; daughter, Brenda Pearson, and husband John; stepdaughter Teresa Hanna, and husband Mike; grandchildren, Vic Blair, Tara Blair, Victoria Pearson, and John Pearson, II. Stepgrandchildren, Christine, Melanie, and Elizabeth Hanna; special niece, Marcy Price, and special friends who were like extended family.
There will be an open viewing at Lescher-Millsap on Saturday, March 20, 2021 from noon until 8pm for friends to have a time to say their goodbyes and pay their respects. A family memorial service will be held on a later date.
