John Kevin Guthrie

I’m so shocked and saddened by the loss of my precious friend. We met when he moved to Tyler and worked for the city. He was always fun and full of life. John I will always treasure our special friendship. I love you sweet friend. RIP sweetie.

The Jones and Williams family sends our prayers to Brother and Sisters Guthrie sorry for your loss John was always smiling and in good spirits every time we saw him at Walmart really enjoyed talking to him and seeing him. He will be missed.

John & I met years ago when we both worked for UPS in Coppell, TX. It is easy to say that John never met a stranger that he did not speak to. That did not mean that he always liked them once they did speak but he was always open to new people and places. While he loved living in Dallas and all the adventures and friendships that he had made and really family just not blood related but related by heart here in Dallas; there was just always something missing when he lived here. He was homesick for his family back in Oklahoma. When our jobs went overseas, he decided to go back home to be with the family that he missed and loved so. His parents, his sister, his cousins, and the nieces and nephews that he adored. John danced to the beat of his own drummer and he had to be true to himself even at the cost that some people or family might not accept him. At least that is what he told me that he was afraid of when we talked about him moving back home. He was afraid of leaving everyone that he had here and starting over back home after being gone for so many years. He was so happy that he made the choice to move home. He treasured the shopping trips and lunches with his sister and his mom. He loved being able to see his dad preach again. He loved being close to his parents again and the relationship that they had that he said was better than it ever was before he moved to Dallas. Reconnecting with cousins and making new friendships at his new job at Walmart. As much as he liked to complain about Wally World, he liked being in the Tire Department and he talked about some of the people/customers that he met or encountered while working there.
I will always remember telephone conversations over television shows that we both watched and enjoyed -Glee and GCB – and going to the movies or to dinner at Applebee’s or El Fenix. He never went anywhere without his eyebrows being on point or without his chap stick or as he called it “PuckerButter” on because he hated dry lips. I am still absolutely stunned & heartbroken that he is no longer here with us on Earth but I take comfort in knowing that he has be reunited with his sister because he missed her so and to be able to celebrate Christmas in Heaven what a celebration that must have been. To his beloved parents and family – I pray for your peace, comfort, the knowledge that he meant so much to so many, that he brought joy, humor, and sometime much needed truth to a lot of us, and I also pray that you are surrounded by beautiful memories of a life well lived and loved, share stories with one another to cherish and get through this time of grief.
