Michael “Mickey” Akers, 80, of Charleston, West Virginia, died Monday, August 10, 2020 at Saint Francis Hospital in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He was a coal miner in Moundsville, West Virginia and moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico in 1960 and continued as a potash miner. He retired from Mine Safety and Health Administration.

Michael was a member of the Shriners club of Webbers Falls, Oklahoma. He drove children in need to Shriner’s Hospital from Texas to Chicago. He loved fishing and hunting.
He is survived by: wife Linda Akers; son Michael Akers of Commerce, Michigan and his fiancé Kimberly Bowen of Albuquerque New Mexico; 2 grandchildren: Sarah Akers of Fenton, Michigan and Brianna Akers of Grand Rapids, Michigan; 3 brothers: Theodore “Ted” Akers of Crestview, Florida, Patrick “Pat” Dunlap and wife Pamela, of Sumerco, West Virginia, Timothy "Tim" Dunlap and wife, Patty of Moundsville, West Virginia. Mickey had 9 nieces and nephews.
