Kathy Lynn Mosteller

1953 – 2020

Kathy Lynn Mosteller was born April 28, 1953 in Muskogee, OK to Vondale and Onetta Hardin. She grew up and graduated high school in Fort Gibson, OK. She was united in marriage to James Mosteller on May 24, 1973, a marriage that lasted 46 years. Unto this union, three wonderful children were born (Her words not ours). Kathy retired from the VA Regional office after 25 years of service to begin the career she was put on this earth for, Full Time Nana. For as much as she thought of her children, her grandchildren were put on an even higher pedestal. They wanted for nothing when Nana was around. Faith was number one in Kathy’s life. She was a lifelong member of Fort Gibson First Baptist Church where she enjoyed helping in the kitchen and teaching Children’s Church. Without Faith, you can’t have a family, and family was her next priority. Her devotion to her husband and children was immeasurable. Her sole goal in life was for her children to have life better than she did, she accomplished this goal through sheer will and determination, oftentimes in spite of her children’s best efforts. A wonderful cook and hard worker, Kathy made a home second to none for her family. Although her passing was unexpected, her family is forever grateful for the time they were able to spend with her and that she was our wife, mother and grandmother.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, James Mosteller. Children, James and Kim Gilbreth, Josh and Stephanie Mosteller and Gabe and Charli Mosteller. Her grandchildren, Emma Gilbreth, Sylvia Gilbreth, Vanessa Gilbreth and Rebecca Gilbreth, Samantha Salat, Aubree Green, Finn Mosteller and Hayes Mosteller. Her siblings, Carol Mosteller, Lou Ann Stretch, Doug Hardin and Nancy Obregon.

While there is a void in our lives that can never be filled, her legacy of faith and family will be passed on for generations to come.

We love you Nana.

Services for Kathy will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 20 at Fort Gibson First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at South Bethel Cemetery of Braggs. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Fort Gibson First Baptist Church Youth Fund. Services under the direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home.

It is with much sadness I share my heartfelt condolences to all who knew and loved Kathy. I had the pleasure of knowing her as we were classmates in Fort Gibson, graduating together with the class of 1971. She was always very kind, sweet natured and a joy to be around. It would be hard to forget her lovely brown hair and sparkling brown eyes. I cannot remember a time that she was not focused on her studies as she was a gifted and hard working student. Therefore it comes as no surprise that she continued on to enjoy a successful working life while nurturing such a warm and loving family. Although I did not have opportunities to see her all these years later, I will treasure those early day memories with her in our beloved hometown Fort Gibson. Trusting the many happy memories of her will warmly surround and gently comfort her family during the difficult days ahead. So very sorry I will be unable to attend her memorial but will be keeping you deep within my heart and thoughts. Love, Carolyn Cahoon Watts

Kathy was one of my first friends at the VA in about 1994. We went on break and lunch together almost everyday for years. She was always trying to help others and the veterans. She loved her family more than anything and was a good role model for me and others. I will miss her. Becky McGraw.
