Velma Morton was born September 2, 1924 in Webbers Falls the daughter of Russell and Cora (Vann) Short. She passed from this life on April 6, 2020. She was 95.

Velma attended school at Mountain View and Webbers Falls. She enjoyed life and had a ready smile for whomever she met. She was a lifelong farmer and rancher and enjoyed attending livestock shows and watching her grandchildren show animals. She was a supporter of the FFA and had fun catering some of their banquets.
She retired from Webbers Falls Public Schools where she managed the cafeteria for 27 years. She got acquainted with and enjoyed “her kids”. She took pride in feeding them well. Velma enjoyed gardening, growing her flowers as well as cooking and baking for her family and friends. She did her own yardwork until heart problems sidelined her. One of her favorite things was family get togethers, especially the holidays. Attending church services was another joy. She was lifelong member of the Church of Christ and attended Lake Road Church of Christ.
Surviving are one sister Mary Liable of Montana; two children, Roger Morton and wife Samantha of Webbers Falls, OK, Pat Harrison and her husband Chuck of Ft. Gibson, OK; four grandchildren Jarred Morton and wife Deanna of Broken Arrow, OK, Whitney Cramer and husband Tyler, Ali Sanders and husband Jake and Ethan Morton and wife Natalie all of Webbers Falls, OK; ten great grandchildren, Colton, Kenley, Layla, Serenity, Micah, Chandler, Lilli, Carter, Corie and Ransom as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.
Velma was preceded in death by her husband Sherman A. Morton, her daughter Cindy Shackelford of Webbers Falls; two sisters and five brothers Willa Helmbrecht, Ruby Helmbrecht and Melvin Short of all of Helena, MT, Kenneth “Pete” Short of California, R.P. Short of New Mexico and Lee Short and Jimmy Short of Webbers Falls.
Funeral services will be held with the immediate family at Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home with Mr. Roy Rains officiating. Interment will be at Fort Gibson National Cemetery under the care and direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home of Muskogee.
