James Lewis Heistand was born April 2, 1934 in Flint Michigan the son of Walter and Fern (Welch) Heistand. He passed from this life to his eternal home on June 20, 2019 at his home. He was 85.

James was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1953 to 1956. He was married to his wife Treva on March 18, 2001 in Manistique, MI. The couple moved to Oklahoma in 2005. James was a very mission minded man. He was always there to take care of the needs of others and do what he could to help his fellow man. While in Michigan he operated the Good Neighbor Services rescue mission. In Oklahoma he ran the Helping hands Ministry for several years. He had a gift of being able to talk to anyone and was friendly with everyone. In his free time James loved to fish. His favorite saying was “Keep on keeping on.”
He is survived by his wife Treva of the home; one daughter Dawn Collom and granddaughters Missy Bradley, Melinda Bradley and Brenda Cox and husband Robert. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson Keith Bradley.
Funeral services will be 10 am Tuesday June 25, 2019 at the Church on the Word in Warner with Nelson Cummings officiating. Interment will be at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery under the care and direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home of Muskogee. Viewing will be on Monday from 10 am to 8 pm.
Pallbearers will be Kelly Cox, Bobby Phillips, Robert Sheldon, Aaron Miller, Faron Miller and Ray Padgett.
