Lois Christenberry Newby, 87, passed away May 11, 2019 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born on April 23, 1932 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Arthur Caldwell and Lena Willard Caldwell. Her mother died when Lois was four years old. At that time Lois, her brother and two sisters went to live with their paternal grandmother for a few years. Later she and her two sisters spent several years at the Ursuline Academy, a Catholic boarding school, in Paola, Kansas. Lois loved her time there and all of the nuns who cared for her. She graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1950. She met her first husband, Warren (Pete) Christenberry, at a YMCA dance. They were married 47 years before his death in 1997. In 2004 Lois married Wilson (Art) Newby, a fellow league bowler. They spent 13 years together before his death in 2016.

She spent all of her working years in the medical field doing clerical work. First at OSU Veterinary College in Stillwater while Pete attended OSU. She later worked for Dr. Green in Muskogee, Muskogee Women’s Clinic and retired from the Muskogee Health Department in 2003.
Lois was a happy person and was always the first one ready when someone said "Let's go". She was an accomplished artist as well as wood carver. Her family treasures many of her paintings and carvings done over the years. She loved fishing and spending time at the lake with family and friends. She also spent many years and made many friends on bowling leagues in Muskogee.
When her health problems started eight years ago and she eventually lost her ability to walk, Lois handled it with courage and grace.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Lenart Caldwell, sisters, Wanda Hicks and Thelma Allen. As well as her husbands, Pete Christenberry and Art Newby.
She is survived by daughter Karen Waymire (Rick), son Mike Christenberry (Margie), grandchildren Cindy Hickl, Rick Waymire, Jr., Julie Christenberry, and Michael Christenberry (Amy). Great grandchildren Lance, Dalton, Maddox and Ashlyn Christenberry and soon to be born Warren Michael. Lois is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many friends.
We'd like to give a special thank you to her caregivers at Montereau in Tulsa, especially Samantha and Becky and Saint Francis Hospice. These special people went above and beyond in making sure the last year of Lois's life was filled with love, caring and comfort.
