Lorene (Toney) Phillips was born to the late George and Georgia (Muskrat) Toney on March 7, 1939 at Porum, Oklahoma and passed from this life April 18, 2019 at the age of 80.
At the age of 5, she moved with her family to Warner, Oklahoma. Lorene attended Warner Public Schools for 12 years and graduated with the Class of 1958. Upon her graduation from Warner, she attended Haskell Institute, Lawrence, KS, enrolled in the two-year Commercial Training curriculum. She graduated from Haskell Institute in 1960. In 1961 Lorene began her career with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Muskogee, OK, which she retired on January 1, 2010.
Lorene married Allison Phillips on May, 10, 1975, at Gore, OK-he predeceased her on May 11, 2012. They enjoyed serving the Lord together. She supported her husband well in his ministerial work.
She, also, was preceded in death by: her parents, her five siblings-brothers. Sequoyah and Evans Toney; sisters, Rosie Toney, Ellen Toney and Geneva Foreman; and, one nephew Douglas Toney, and one great-granddaughter, Charlee Thompson.
She is survived by: her son, David Toney and wife, Sheri of Wainwright, OK; her granddaughters, Jaclyn Thompson (Nathan) of Muskogee, OK and Kaydi Toney- Arterberry (Daniel) of Muskogee, OK; three great-grandsons, Ace Roland of Muskogee, Ayden Thompson of Bixby, Kash Arterberry of Muskogee, and one great-granddaughter Presley Arterberry of Edmond, OK (she was known to them as ‘G.G.’) Nieces, Jeanetta (Larry) Vice, Rhonda Foreman, Sylvia (Frank) Tillery, Maxine (Danny) Daniels, and Kim (Robert) Munoz; nephews, Evan Toney Jr. and Kenny Toney; and a host of great-great nieces, nephews and cousins.
She and ‘Papa Al’ enjoyed watching their granddaughters playing basketball, softball, and cheerleading and were their loyal fans, and not only did they enjoy the granddaughters, but also their teammates. Lorene played sports in high school too, and people would tell she played too rough, but she would answer, I don’t think so.
Lorene was baptized at Warner First Baptist Church in August 1951 by the late Rev. James Dooley. She moved her membership to Cedar Spring Baptist Church in April 1975. She served as a Sunday School Teacher for 25 years, Church Treasurer since 1976, and Womens Leader since 1983, all of which she enjoyed doing her Lord’s work.
Lorene enjoyed her life, her family, her family, her Church family, her friends, and all of the workers from other churches that she met. She has finished her race, and in her words, now we need to keep running or start running.
Pallbearers: Harvey Williams, Arthur Joe Locust, Jeremy Locust, Jimmy Hicks, Dee Vice, and William Vice.
Services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday April 22 at Cedar Spring Baptist Church in Gore, Oklahoma, and burial will be at the Tom Girty Cemetery at Webbers Falls, Oklahoma with Bro. Mitchell Taylor and Bro. Sidney Lee officiating. Viewing will be 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Saturday April 20 at Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home, Webbers Falls, Oklahoma.

Lorene was such a great lady. She was always so friendly and nice. She and Allison lived across the street from my parents in Braggs. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to her entire family.
