Obituary

One of America’s Greatest Generation, WWII veteran Charles A. Farmer, passed into Heaven December 17, 2018 at the age of 93 years, 6 months and 19 days. He was known as Charlie to all his friends and to all his family he was Alvis.

Alvis moved to Muskogee in January 1947 after being discharged from the Army Air Corps with his new bride Effie. He worked for Ammon Wrecker Service as a mechanic and wrecker driver until October 1951. He then worked at Magic Empire Express for 26 years, Okmulgee Express Company, and then with the Teamsters extra board. After completing a total of 39 years with the Teamsters Alvis retired October 31, 1990. After his retirement he operated Charlies Lawn Mower Repair out of his garage until 1996.

Alvis was born in Welling, Oklahoma to Charles H. and Dora (Patton) Farmer on May 29, 1925. He was the sixth of ten children.

Alvis proudly served in the Army Air Corps, 442nd Air Service Group as the corporal of the Guard in the base guard house and Military Policeman in Kitzengen and Kaufenburg, Germany during WWII.

Alvis was preceded in death by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 49 years, Effie Mae (Bell) Farmer in 1996, his son David LeRoy Farmer in 2016 and twin great granddaughters Kiersten and Abigail VandenBerg in 2005.

Alvis leaves behind his children, Charles W. (Bill) Farmer and wife Jean of Keefeton, Danny L Farmer and wife Sue of Coweta, Mary M. Taylor and husband Charles of Sapulpa and Regena G. Naus and husband Richard of Muskogee; five grandchildren, Erin Chona of Broken Arrow, Stephanie VandenBerg of Littleton, CO, Christopher McAlister of Muskogee, Andrew Farmer of Cedar Hill, TX, Patrick Farmer of Cedar Hill, TX and eight great grandchildren, numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; his brothers, Henry, Lonnie and Troy Farmer, as well as his sister Marie Byrd. Also his many friends he cared deeply about.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday December 21, 2018 at the Lifepoint Church in Muskogee with Pastor Randy Lynn officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Muskogee under the direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home of Muskogee.

Pallbearers will be Bill Farmer, Stephen Farmer, Troy Farmer, Page Farmer, Rick Farmer and Carl Wayne Byrd.

Viewing will be on Thursday from 10 am to 8 pm at the funeral home.
