Obituary for Marie Branscum

Marie  Branscum
Elizabeth Marie Branscum, longtime Fort Gibson resident passed from this earth surrounded by her family on June 14, 2017. She was born to Ott and Vina Thomas on August 31, 1930 in Braggs, OK. She attended school at Porter and Muskogee schools.

Marie married I.B. Branscum on October 28, 1946 at the Wagoner Church of Christ. Last October the couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. They lived in Muskogee until they settled in Fort Gibson 1964 where they owned and operated a dairy farm. After selling the dairy Marie was the Food Service Director for the Fort Gibson Schools.

She was a faithful member of the Fort Gibson Church of Christ, serving as a Bible School teacher, funeral dinner coordinator and ministered to the church family and entire community. Her kindness and Christ like serving heart touched the lives of her family, church family and community.

Marie is survived by her husband I.B., of the home; 5 children, Don Branscum and wife Deborah, Jeanette Karnes and husband Joe, Randy Branscum and wife Susan, Lavina Gist and husband David and Chris Branscum and wife Rhonda; 11 grandchildren, Shane Branscum and wife Karen, Shannon Smith, Jodie Jones and husband Jeff, Brian Karnes, Dee Dee Landers and husband Jeremy, Jennifer Yeager and husband Brian, Crystal Thomas and husband Chris, Danny Gist and wife Cathy, Dana Center and husband Bryan, Robby Branscum and wife Hannah and Tyler Branscum; 25 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Julie Bingham, Ruby Goodpasture and husband Bob and Barbara Brewster and husband Larry; a special sister-in-law Marion Thomas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister Della Beaver; 1 brother Denzil Thomas; 1 grandson Luther Joe Karnes and a great grandson Kendall Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am Monday June 19, 2017 at the Fort Gibson Church of Christ with Mr. Dan Rouse and Mr. Budo Perry officiating. Interment will follow in the Citizens Cemetery under the direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home of Fort Gibson. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Shane Branscum, Brian Karnes, Danny Gist, Robby Branscum, Tyler Branscum and Jake Branscum. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Young, Charlie Dortch, Jerry Walker and Lyle Tolbert.

Viewing will be Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday from 1 pm to 7pm. The family will greet friends beginning at 4 pm on Sunday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Burnt Cabin Youth Camp or to the Hope Harbor Children’s Home.
