John R. Shimack, 70, of Fort Gibson, OK, was born February 25, 1947 in Fort Wayne, Indiana the son of Arthur and Ella (Black) Shimack and died Friday, April 14, 2017 in Tulsa, OK.
John served in the U. S. Navy from 1965 to 1989 reaching the rank of Chief Petty Officer. On July 14, 1987 he married Perla Obejas in Wagoner, OK. After retirement, John went to the Philippines but came back in 1993 to help take care of his Dad. In addition to their family, John and Perla’s life has centered around the Muskogee Farmers Market, since 1998, where Perla plans to continue to honor John by continuing to provide produce to the many friends they have made over the past 19 years.
Survivors include his wife, Perla, of the home; son, John “Jr.” Shimack; two daughters, Shelly Shimack of the home, Sheila Byrd and husband, Chris, of Tahlequah; three grandchildren, Iriya Byrd, Miriya Byrd, and Kyra Byrd; sister, Janice Spargler of Lawton; brother, Bill Shimack; and nephew, Ray Spargler of Wichita Falls, TX.
Funeral services for John will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2017 at Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Gibson with Reverend Chuck Myers officiating. Burial will be in Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
